Gingerbread house making

We had a gingerbread house making night at MooreWest a few nights ago. There was an incredible amount of icing - just masses of it!

I made up a digital scrapbooking page this morning from a freebie kit over at BlueBazaar. Check it out!

My house fell over the next day - dodgy $10 Aldi house. The little icing people had their butt cracks showing! Well that, or they've got little chunky legs. At the moment it's all be pulled apart and half eaten. Very, very yummy.

Holidays = cleaning and knitting

Yay!! Exams are over!! *doing happy dance*

I've got a summer job teaching English at a college in the city centre - right next to Tapestry Craft! How awesome is that! I like the stuff they have but the service isn't that great. It was empty on Tuesday and no-one greeted me even even after I wondered around for a good 10 minutes. Ah well. I still love Lincraft and Spotlight especially since all their yarn is dirt cheap at the moment.

So after cleaning the house from top to bottom (it's a mess again already!) I've moved onto knitting.

Here is my Monkey sock so far. It's annoying me. The pattern is not difficult but too difficult for me to memorise and the yarn is splitting a lot. Also I really don't have the right DPNs. I've got three matching ones and I'm using another pair to make up the five needed but the pair are all banged up and scratched so the yarn doesn't slide on them so well. I'm going to keep at it since I've nearly finished the leg on this first one and see how I go.

Jacksie asked on my comments about the yarn for this project. The Sirdar Wonderland is a 4 ply but only comes in 20gram balls. The rest of the ball band info: size 10 UK needles, 100% courtelle. Hope that helps you! :)

The next project I'm working on is a scarf for a friend. *shhhhh* It's a suprise! :) It's made from Moda Vera Sentiments from Spotlight (all their Moda Vera is $2/ball by the way!) and it's 50% mohair and 50% acrylic. Very soft and squishy. I'm using this drop stitch pattern with a few modifications.

I've got a few other projects I want to get done this holidays - including Christmas presents. I'm not sure I'll make many Christmas presents as I don't think that many people understand the time and love that goes into them. My dad would like something though. But he'll have to preface his acceptance by asking why am I knitting? Am I pregnant? (insert mutiple eyerolls).

A shout out to all the Filipinos visiting my blog! Mabuhay!! Nathan's making me a Filo meal this week as I'm feeling a little 'homesick' (but not really since I was born here!). Chunks of BBQ pig with soy sauce and chili! Yummmmm!!!!

Music - Just can't get it out of my head

Music's been getting to me recently. I love music that reminds me of a good time I had or special memories of an event or time in my life. Last night on 20-to-1 Bert Newton (hate his hair btw) went through the top most songs that 'You can't get out of your head'. Lots of them I didn't know but lots of them were from my high school days - Spice Girls, Kylie Minogue, Who Let the Dogs Out etc. I *need* a best of 1996-2000.

I also just found a CD from my mission trip to Azerbaijan with OM in 2002 and it made me feel very nostalgic. I didn't like the amount of time I had to spend on the toilet due to all the new food but I did like remembering the great friends I made and the small impact I had on those refugees in Barda (central Azerbaijan).

I had my first experience at spinning there!! This is something that I think my love of fibre arts may develop into one day! :)

Reading Hebrew is Hard! :(

3 exams down 2 to go! Yay! I've got an Old Testament exam concerning the texts in Hebrew tomorrow and then Church History on Thursday. After that my brain is free to return to mush through knitting, scrapbooking and TV. Yay! :)

My Monkey sock is coming only - halfway through the third repeat but I've found that this yarn tends to split so my k2togs are all bulky and wispy due to the splitting. Ah well - it's an experiment, as my dad would say.

Here are my current Flickr faves. I need to get a Pro account as I'm way over my 200 photo limit.

Sock Knitting Rocks!

So I finished my first pair of socks!! :) YAY!! The only problem is that they are the most itchiest things I have *ever* put on my feet. They even made my hands incredibly itchy. I'm hoping that after I wash and block them that they will be a lot more comfortable to wear. Not that I'm going to be wearing them anytime soon anyways being summer and all!

I've taken to the sock knitting bug and I've started another pair! This time I'm using a real, live pattern from Knitty. They're called Monkey socks and I love them! I'll be using some smaller needles (2.5mm) and some more vintage yarn from my Granny's stash - Sirdar Wonderland 4ply.

Exams are going well - I've done 2 of the 5. I should be doing Hebrew right now - I need to be able to exegete about 8 passages from Deuteronomy and 1 and 2 Samuel. Argghh! Hebrew is much harder than Greek. :(

First sock

This is my sock so far. It's only about 5 inches long and needs to be 8 inches but I think I'll stop at 7 inches. I don't want it to go all the way up to my knees!

I'm using 4 DPNs (double pointed needles) that I nabbed from a 99c auction on eBay (with at least 5 other sets too!). The yarn is some from the stash I got from my Granny when she passed away: Sirdar Octo 8ply 80% wool, 20% nylon.

I'm using Silver's Sock Class which is so great with all the pictures. KnittingHelp is great with all those videos too. I'm still trying to work out if I want to knit continental (left hand like crochet) or English (right hand). At the moment I'm sort of throwing the yarn over the needles but not holding the yarn with any good tension in either hand.

I'm really enjoying this project but my finger tips are getting very sore from pushing the needle tips. I don't think I'm doing that part right because I've never heard of sore finger tips from knitting.

The only problem is that this is very distracting and I have still done no work for the upcoming exams at college. Ah well. That's what STUVAC is for I guess!
